Beach

By Ashley, Year 9

My artwork is a bird鈥檚-eye view of the beach, with people laying on the sand and swimming in the ocean. One of the elements that is most visual in my artwork is the texture of the sand. Whilst I was making this artwork, I not only wanted to make something visually pleasing, I also wanted to make something that you could touch and imagine. I wanted the depth and shadow of sand to be cast upon my canvas.

A step I took before I started to create my art was to collect some sand/dust that I would use for the textured part of my artwork. I needed to find something that wasn鈥檛 too grainy, but not too thin that you wouldn鈥檛 be able to touch and realise what it is. I walked around the school with a cup, rubbing sand between my fingers to try and find the perfect texture. When I found the right texture, I added a combination of gold, yellow, and white paint to the sand, along with some glue. I was inspired to do this artwork by the TV show Bondi Beach, as well as a small artist named Elizabeth Langreiter. I didn鈥檛 want to create this artwork with any emotions, I wanted to simply make it enjoyable to look at.

My overall goal for this artwork was to make something that would make people think of a time they have been to the beach, or an enjoyable moment of the beach that they could remember, whether it be over a TV show or a memory. My overall thought for this artwork is disappointing. This artwork wasn鈥檛 how I expected it to turn out whatsoever, and there are many factors I would change about it.
