Connected

Throughout this term, I have created an art piece that represents beauty in a minimalistic way. This piece titled “Connected” has techniques such as texture, lines, and depth. This creates a piece that pops out to the audience. The Artwork is leaning on each other in little divests that help them stand together. The work itself is made from plaster moulded in clay to take on the shapes it does. The most apparent feature on my art would be the texture and the way that the texture creates it unique to other works of art.

When creating this artwork, I have used plater moulded in clay. This created the shapes of bone like figures. The tool I have used to create the shapes, dents and textures in this mould is plater sculpting tools. These tools have sharp edges that help make a smooth cut when sculpting an object. This is how I achieved these shapes and textures. I made sure to use different angles on these tools to create the depth in the piece.

One of the main artist that inspired my art was Carl Andre. His works display minimalism to its core. He creates simple yet captivating pieces with meaning behind them, which is what I was hoping to capture in this artwork. The main meaning/big idea that I had for this work was to show the connecting between two harmonising objects. These object displaying abstract bones showing how two different objects can connect and have some sort of relationship.

My goal for this work was to, again, show the connection of two different objects despite being different and having different meanings or purposes. I believe that I did create a work that displays this connection. The way that I have shown this is through the different lines and shapes of the different parts of this work and through the way that they intertwine with each other.

When creating this work, I learnt how to display beauty in a way that represents what I believe beauty is and what beauty should be. In the end my piece isn’t what I imagined it to be. When starting this unit, I had in mind that I was going to create a minimalistic piece that did not have any meaning behind it. But now after I have found that creating something with meaning to yourself is a lot easier then trying to create something you have no interest in.
