I explored the concept of the inherent connection humans have with nature and both the affect it has upon us when we are deprived or restricted from the external environment and how we as humans are connected and like nature. In my work “Equilibrium”, size 60cm in diameter, I chose to utilise a wooden circle to represent and enhance the similarity of the life cycle between humans and nature.

I believe that nature is a necessary aspect within our lives to ensure we remain balanced. My love and appreciation for nature stems from my exposure in my early upbringing as I was raised on Groote Eylandt, which taught the importance of our environment and how it provides and cares for us.

Through the exploration from different artists, I learnt the elements which were of importance to my final piece, assisting in the completion and development of my artwork. Sara Boccaccini inspired me to capture my love and appreciation of nature through beautiful illustrations of simple elements found within our environment. Casey Manson inspired my technique through applying mediums without hesitation and with a ‘carefree’ attitude. Lastly, Khoa Le inspired me to utilise abstract elements to enhance the audience’s interest in my work.

The final practical work was created to demonstrate the spiritual connection humans have with nature and how we are quite similar as we both follow the same life cycle. I wished to exhibit my own personal values and opinions towards nature in order to enhance my connection and the audiences connection to this final artwork.

The creation of my final composition included various problem-solving capabilities, along with the need to continuously develop new ideas or expand and enhance previous ideas. It was necessary to consider the scale of my work to ensure each element was sized nicely, as well as measuring my lines correctly to ensure they were straight and angled precisely. Overall, my artwork demonstrates my intended message whilst including elements of nature.
